Racing 92 was going through a squad restructuring phase. At winger, the club had four professional players at the time, three of whom were non-JIFF. In an environment constrained by squad-composition rules, the club wanted to rebalance the position with a JIFF profile, young and able to contribute quickly in the Top 14. Mandated by Racing 92, Activrep worked with the club's management to define this need precisely. At the same time, Wilfried Hulleu was having a standout season with Grenoble in Pro D2. At 23, his profile combined several of the criteria sought: JIFF status, youth, and a level of performance among the best players at his position in the league.
Racing 92's context added complexity to the process. The club was going through reorganisation, and several contacts succeeded one another, making decision-making less linear. Wilfried was meanwhile being courted elsewhere on the market. One sporting question in particular had to be answered: to what extent could the performances of a 23-year-old winger dominating Pro D2 translate to the level above? The challenge was moving beyond a reading based solely on the player's home league and objectifying his level of performance, his JIFF profile and his potential for progression.
Activrep began by precisely framing the need with Racing 92's sporting management: a JIFF winger, young and high-performing, able to help rebalance the squad. Scouting work identified Wilfried Hulleu among the profiles matching these criteria. His performances were then analysed to better qualify his projection. Over the 2024/25 season with Grenoble, Wilfried played 22 matches and scored 18 tries, the second-best return in the league in that category. He also recorded 36 clean breaks, an especially high output among players under 25. These elements completed the assessment of the profile and documented his case for the move up to the Top 14. Activrep then led the discussions and the negotiation with Racing 92, despite changing contacts and competition around the player, through to finalising the agreement.
Wilfried Hulleu signed with Racing 92 for three seasons, from 2025 to 2028. His adaptation to the higher level began from matchday one of the Top 14, which he played as a starter for 80 minutes. Over the full 2025/26 season, he played 17 matches for 1,133 minutes and scored 10 tries, confirming his ability to produce offensively from his very first season at Racing 92. His recruitment also contributed to rebalancing the position with the addition of a young JIFF winger to the squad.
A player's home league is not enough on its own to determine his ability to step up a level. Data makes it possible to move beyond that first reading and better qualify his projection in a new environment.
