Valentin Delpy × Stade Toulousain

Deal by Activrep First professional contract 2024/25 Top 14 / Pro D2
01 · Context

Valentin Delpy, a fly-half trained at Stade Toulousain, plays within the club's academy. Stade Toulousain wanted to commit to him for the long term, with one structuring sporting condition: letting the player toughen up in Pro D2 for a season before continuing his integration into the Toulouse professional squad. Mandated by Stade Toulousain to secure Valentin's first mixed contract — Espoir then professional — Activrep worked on two related fronts: building the agreement between the player and his training club, and identifying the loan to support the next stage of his development.

02 · Challenge

The first challenge was timing. The further the season progressed, the more complex the deal became: Stade Toulousain wanted to combine a long-term commitment with a development season in Pro D2, while clubs were progressively finalising their squads for the following season. The negotiation also had to account for several dimensions around a young player: his progression and value, his playing-time prospects during the loan, and the continuation of his university studies. The challenge was therefore building a coherent path between academy, loan and the move into professional rugby.

03 · Execution

Activrep first worked with Stade Toulousain to reach agreement on the principle and structure of a long-term commitment. In parallel, the Pro D2 market was activated to identify an environment allowing Valentin to continue his development with greater playing-time prospects. Discussions led to an opportunity with Colomiers. Activrep then supported both operations: negotiating Valentin's first mixed contract with Stade Toulousain and building the loan with Colomiers. The duration and progression between the different contractual statuses were worked out with the club, as was the player's valuation and the alignment of his sporting project with continuing his studies.

04 · Outcome

On 17 February 2025, Stade Toulousain announced Valentin Delpy's extension and his loan to Colomiers for the 2025/26 season. The player signed his first mixed contract, organising his move from Espoir to professional status and his commitment to Stade Toulousain through 2028. After his development season in Pro D2, Valentin returned to Toulouse for the 2026/27 season and continued his integration into the professional squad.

05 · The Principle

A first professional contract is not just a signature. It requires building the path around it: the right development environment, the right timing, and a framework coherent with the player's sporting and personal trajectory.
