In spring 2017, RCT was rebuilding its back row and looking for a ball-carrying profile with significant room to progress. The club turned to Facundo Isa, an Argentine international back-rower who already knew the Toulon environment, having played there a few years earlier. One major obstacle remained: securing his release from the Argentine Rugby Union.
The deal could not be limited to an agreement between the player and RCT. The Argentine federation was a decisive stakeholder in the player's exit. Added to this regulatory and relational complexity was a scheduling constraint: RCT could not bring Facundo in immediately. An intermediate solution was therefore needed, aligning the player, RCT, the Argentine federation and another French club.
Activrep first worked on aligning Facundo Isa and RCT around a new collaboration. The process continued with the negotiation required with the Argentine federation to allow the player's exit. Faced with Toulon's inability to bring him in immediately, a two-step solution was built with LOU Rugby: an initial arrival in France at Lyon from January 2017, before joining Toulon in the summer. The deal therefore required coordinating four parties: the player, RCT, LOU Rugby and the Argentine federation.
Facundo Isa joined RCT in July 2017 on an initial two-season contract. He went on to establish himself durably in the Toulon back row. His contract was extended twice, and he spent eight seasons at RCT, from 2017 to 2025.
Some deals are not played out solely between a player and a club. Understanding every stakeholder is part of the negotiation.
